You don't need a spinning wheel to create a beautiful vases.

It can be done with slabs of clay. Here we will show how to construct a two part clay vase and open a world of design ideas for you.

STEPS

  1. Roll out 3/4 of your clay bag with a rolling pin or an empty glass bottle. 

  2. With the help of a ruler and a sharpie knife cut a rectangle.

  3. Get any object with a cylindrical shape. Wrap the jar around the clay slab. You can use newspaper or baking sheet to avoid sticking.

  4. Cut the excess clay off, but leave some extra at the end for joining the edges of your vase.

  5. Create a second slab to model the foot. 

  6. Join the two pieces together. Dip your finger in water and wet the edges you can to join. 

  7. Shape the toes using the carving tools and smooth edges with your fingers. 

  8. Let it dry for at least 2-3 days.

  • A bag of air-dry clay 

  • A bowl of water to dip your fingers in

  • A roller pin or empty glass bottle
