Pinch pots are the ideal project for newcomers to hand-building with clay; perfecting this technique is a fantastic way to start developing your clay-craft skills.
STEPS
Take a little less than half of your clay brick and roll it into a tennis ball.
Gently push your thumb into the center of the ball and press way down to the bottom. But not through the bottom.
Using your thumb and fingers, gently pinch and turn the ball to shape the walls of your pot. Tip: Smooth edges and imperfections with a finger dipped in water.
Thin walls slowly until roughly 1 cm thick all around. Then flatten the bottom so it can sit.
Use the paddle tool or your fingers to smooth the rough spots.
